What is ZODE?

ZODE is a text and URL shortener. ZODE allows you to enter one or more URLs or some notes you may have (we refer to these as 'resources'), and will convert them into something easier to save, remember, or share.

When you shorten resources on ZODE, you will receive a QR code that you can scan to retrieve your URL or text again, as well as a code that you can use either as a standalone short-code that you enter on the ZODE website, or as a short-link you can share elsewhere.

How is ZODE different to other text/URL shorteners?

ZODE differs to the shortening services that exist in the following ways:

  • The ZODE website is quick, simple, and intuitive to use. Everything you need is right in front of you - nothing more and nothing less.
  • ZODE was initially designed to make it easier to transfer open browser tabs between your own devices - it's for this reason that a) you can convert up to 16 URLs at once (most URL shortening services only shorten a single URL), and b) the ZODE URL QuickAdd browser extension and bookmarklet exist.
  • Your data is your data. Forever. ZODE isn’t owned by a big corporation, it's built and run by a single person as a hobby. You can check out the Privacy Policy for more details.
  • ZODE is completely free and your shortened resources never expire!

What can I shorten on ZODE?

At the current time, ZODE allows for URL or text shortening.

How can I report a ZODE short-link/short-code that I was sent?

If you believe that a ZODE short-link/short-code you have received links to content that is illegal, spam, or otherwise unethical (read: against ZODE’s Terms of Serivce), you can report the short-link/short-code by clicking ‘Report’ in the header/menu.

While we constantly monitor shortened resources to ensure they adhere to the ZODE Terms of Service, submitting a report is the quickest way to ensure that any unethical short-links/short-codes are reviewed and/or taken down.

Will my shortened resources expire?

ZODE does not expire resources that you shorten. Codes, short-links, and QRs will never expire and can be used as many times as you like.

That being said, if you attempt to shorten anything that goes against the Terms of Service, don’t be surprised when your resource is removed!

How many URLs can I shorten at once?

ZODE allows up to 16 URLs to be shortened in a single collection.

How much text can I shorten at once?

ZODE allows up to 5000 characters of text to be shortened. This includes any markdown characters you may choose to use for formatting your notes.

Why does ZODE say my URL is not valid?

ZODE only accepts URLs that point to public websites, which use the HTTP or HTTPS schemes.

What is My History?

My History is a collection of all of the URLs and text that you have shortened on ZODE. You have full control of the items that appear in My History, and can remove individual entries or clear the entire list if required. My History is only available to logged-in users.

Why did ZODE pre-fill some URLs/text?

ZODE temporarily keeps note of what you enter so that if you unintentionally navigate away from the page without submitting you do not lose what you had entered.

Do I need to visit the ZODE website every time I need to shorten or expand something?

No! In addition to the ZODE website, there are a few other ways that you can access ZODE. Check them out on the ZODE Tools page.

I have a suggestion/feedback.

You can submit any suggestions or feedback you have by clicking 'Feedback' in the website header/menu, or by emailing support@zode.co.
